Wide-sense nonblocking for symmetric or asymmetric 3-stage Clos networks under various routing strategies

چکیده
Bene8 s established the notion of wide-sense nonblocking by constructing an example on the symmetric 3-stage Clos network under packing which requires less hardware compared to strict nonblocking. This has remained the only example of a wide-sense non-blocking 3-stage Clos network which is not strictly nonblocking. In this paper, we study packing as well as several other routing strategies which have been studied in the literature and proved that no other example exists for the symmetric 3-stage Clos network. We then extend the study to asymmetric 3-stage Clos network for the <rst time. In particular, we extend Bene8 s example to asymmetric 3-stage Clos network and show that these are the only two possible examples for the strategies under study. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Wide-sense nonblocking for multi-logdN networks under various routing strategies
Chang et al. showed that the number of middle switches required forWSNB under strategies: save the unused, packing, minimum index, cyclic dynamic, and cyclic static, for the 3-stage Clos network C(n,m, r) with r 3 is the same as required for SNB. In this paper, we prove the same conclusion for the multi-logd N network. We also extend our results, except for the minimum index strategy, to a gene...
متن کاملWide-Sense Nonblocking Clos Networks under Packing Strategy
In this paper, we study wide-sense nonblocking conditions under packing strategy for the three-stage Clos network, or v(m;n; r) network. Wide-sense nonblocking networks are generally believed to have lower network cost than strictly nonblocking networks. However, the analysis for the wide-sense nonblocking conditions is usually more difficult. Moore[2] proved that a v(m;n; 2) network is nonbloc...
متن کاملThe Necessary Conditions for Clos-Type Nonblocking Multicast Networks
Efficient interconnection networks are critical to the performance of large communication systems and parallel and distributed computing systems with hundreds or thousands of communication components. The well-known Clos network or v(m;n; r) network can be extended to provide full one-to-many or multicast capability. In this paper, we consider several typical routing control strategies for Clos...
متن کاملPerformance of Clos Multicast Networks
A three-stage circuit-switched Clos network, under various routing control strategies is considered for multicast operation. It was found that, under certain assumptions, this network become nonblocking as the number of middle switches increases. Also ,it was demonstrated that blocking probability can be reduced by certain modifications applied to its links. Key-Words: Multicast, simulation, bl...
متن کاملNonblocking conditions of multicast three-stage interconnection networks
This article considers three-stage switching networks able to support multicast traffic, that is, connections in which one inlet is connected to more than one output at the same time. The nonblocking conditions for this network are studied under the assumption of absence of any optimized routing of the connections inside the structure (the so-called strict-sense nonblocking networks). The theor...
